A positive reaction could see the CLA 45 AMG Racing on the the track very soon, as Mercedes-Benz describes the concept as “close-to-production” spec.
The German carmaker currently offers its SLS AMG GT3 as a racing customer car, but a CLA 45 AMG version would have the advantage of being significantly cheaper. Pricing for a production version at this stage however, remains unclear.
Like its road-going counterpart, the CLA 45 AMG Racing is powered by a 2.0 litre turbo-charged four-cylinder engine.
The road car has 265kW and 450Nm on tap, and can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds - but power and performance figures for the racing concept haven't been revealed.
AMG’s seven-speed dual clutch ‘Speedshift’ will be the only transmission option, which is also borrowed from the road car.
Mercedes says it would be possible to adapt engine specifications to suit various racing categories around the world, and that the CLA 45 AMG Racing can be made in either front- or all-wheel-drive.
The racing concept also features carbon-fibre body panels and reinforced plastics, with a purely race-focused interior comprising of a racing seat and harness along with a roll-cage.
