Mercedes-Benz Citan Van Spied Testing

Mercedes-Benz's first foray into the light commercial vehicle market, the upcoming Citan, has been sprung testing in northern Europe this week.
Based on the familiar Renault Kangoo, the Citan is part of the new Daimler and Renault Nissan partnership, sharing technology and platforms in the low-margin end of the market.
Along with the Citan, the alliance will see the next-generation Renault Twingo and Smart Fortwo share a common platform.
As for the heavily-camouflaged van shown here, Mercedes has topped and tailed the Kangoo with its own unique styling, and the obligatory changes to wheels and trim will further differentiate the Citan from Renault's little van.
Inside, we're expecting a cabin design more in-line with Mercedes' existing commercial range, extending well beyond a three-pointed star on the steering wheel.
The seemingly infinite range of Renault diesels should find their way into the Citan range, along with the a selection of petrol options.
Expect to see a pure electric version also, utilising the advanced technology that drives the Kangoo Z.E.
The Citan will debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover in September. Other variants, including a panel van, a crew bus and a passenger version will follow, slotting in beneath the larger Vito and Sprinter series.
Australia
It's too soon to talk Australian availability, but given the increasing number of options from European makers already selling city vans in Australia, and the weak Euro, Mercedes Australia will likely be giving it a good look.
