Mercedes-Benz has today revealed its long-expected C 450 AMG 4Matic, a new hero model in the ‘regular’ C-Class line-up that will slot in below the Mercedes-AMG C 63 champion.
Fittingly, power in the C 450 AMG 4Matic is provided by a tuned version of Merc’s 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6, with power bumped up to 270kW and 517Nm of torque.
That puts the C 450 well below the 375kW/700Nm C 63 S, but it should play nicely against the 245kW/440Nm S4 and the 225kW/400Nm 335i.
Likewise, with a quoted 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds for the sedan and 5.0 seconds for the wagon, the C 450 both matches and dispatches the 4.9/5.0 and 5.5 second times of the S4, S4 Avant and 335i.
Power in the C 450 AMG is sent to the 4matic all-wheel-drive system through the 7G Tronic seven-speed auto.
Along with 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/45 front and 245/50 rear rubber, the C 450 gets AMG’s styling and aero kit, a quad exhaust layout and, in the cabin, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports seats and AMG trim highlights.
The C 450 AMG will make its way to Australia in 2016, arriving as a companion to the C 63 that will land later this year.
The C 63 is expected to come here in top-shelf ‘S’ form only, making the C 450 an ideal ‘next rung down’ option for buyers not keen to reach into the circa $160,000 range that the C 63 is likely to land at.
To rival the S4, the C 450 would likely be priced in the $100-120,000 region.
Watch for more details to come soon.
