The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has scored a full five star crash safety rating in Euro NCAP testing, a result which perhaps comes as little surprise to the safety-conscious German automaker.

The new C-Class, which launches locally in July, scored 92 percent in adult occupant protection, 84 percent for child occupant protection, 77 percent for pedestrian protection and scored 70 percent for its suite of electronic safety aids.

The European-specification C-Class tested was also equipped with the Collision Prevention Assist Plus system, which is able to automatically brake and avoid collisions at speeds below 40km/h.

Euro NCAP also released results for the 2014 Hyundai i10 (below), which scored just four stars in crash testing.

The i10, which has yet to be confirmed for an Australian release despite Hyundai's stated interest in re-entering the sub-light category, scored 79 percent for adult occupant protection, 80 percent for child occupant protection, 71 percent for pedestrian protection and just 56 percent for electronic safety assist technology.
