Citroen has issued a recall in Australia this week for its C4 Cactus, due to a potential issue with a relay.

The relay may interfere with the controls for the vehicle’s starter motor, causing the motor to engage when not required.

If the vehicle is parked in-gear, an unexpected firing of the starter motor may cause the vehicle to move. Also, the relay may cause overheating which could result in a fire.

In both instances, a possible hazard is present for the vehicle occupants and bystanders.

Affected Cactus models were sold in Australia during September of last year, and 14 are on the recall list.

Mercedes-Benz has also issued a recall this week, but it concerns only two cars.

Both are C-Class midsized models, and both were sold locally in May of 2013.

The carmaker says a bolt securing the steering coupling may not have been tightened to specification during construction.

As a result, the steering coupling may detach from the steering shaft, potentially leading to a loss of steering control.

Should this occur, a risk may be present for the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Citroen and Mercedes-Benz will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
