The concept was built as part of a challenge from Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, using the theme ‘Vision Gran Turismo’ (hence the name).
Powered by an AMG bi-turbo V8 engine, the concept develops 430kW and 800Nm; helped no doubt by the AMG sports exhaust system featuring eight tailpipes which Mercedes says gives ‘an authentic racing car sound’.
Weighing in at 1389kg, the Vision Gran Turismo 6 features an aluminium space-frame body, gull-wing doors and plenty of carbon-fibre components along with a high-performance ceramic braking system.
Other features include motorsport-style release catches on the bonnet and fuel cap along with a grille inspired by the legendary 300SL racing car of 1952.
Inside, the concept houses a Formula 1 inspired cockpit with two seats and a dash designed to look like two gull-wing doors side-by-side.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo will celebrate its world premiere on November 19 at the opening of the new Mercedes-Benz Research & Development Centre in Sunnyvale, California.
Virtual customers will have to wait until December, when Gran Turismo 6 goes on sale.
