With the Audi A3 Sedan proving to be a success and BMW's 1-Series sedan already spied during testing (and rendered), talk is now turning to whether Mercedes-Benz is planning a proper small sedan of its own.

There's the CLA, of course, but with that model being more four-door coupe than a proper sedan, it's the baby sister to the CLS, not the more conventional C-Class.

The CLA measures 4630mm long, putting it just 56mm shorter than a C-Class. It's also over 20cm longer than the A3 Sedan, so one could take that as proof that there's more than enough room for an even more compact Benz four-door.

Such a model could easily be spun off the A-Class's versatile MFA platform, which already underpins four models - the A-Class, B-Class, CLA-Class and GLA-Class
