Mercedes-AMG A45 To Get 294kW Upgrade

A leaked brochure for the 2016 Mercedes-AMG A 45 has revealed a significant power upgrade is in store for the AWD hot hatch, with power set to rise from the already-impressive 265kW of the current model, to a whopping 294kW.

If true, such a jump will properly cement the AMG 2.0 litre's status as the most powerful production engine on a power-per-litre basis, and give Benz's baby performance car an edge against the incoming 270kW Audi RS 3.

According to the brochure, the standard engine output will be increased to 280kW, while the 294kW engine will be offered in a range-topping "A 45 AMG S" version.

There's no mention of what effect those increases will have on performance, but with the current A 45 able to sprint to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds the 2016 model is almost guaranteed to be even swifter.
