The data has dropped on Benz's new AMG GT coupe, and from spec sheet to marketing spin, it's clear the GT has that other German sportscar, the Porsche 911, in its three-pointed gunsight.

With a projected local launch of June 2015 we're still some time away from official prices and equipment levels, but with a projected starting price of $250,000, that puts up against the $245,700 911 Carrera S.

How do they compare?

We're speculating on price, but judging by the brand cred, performance and luxury on offer, it wouldn't be unreasonable for Mercedes-Benz Australia to ask a quarter-million for the entry Mercedes-AMG GT.

AMG GT vs 911 Carrera S

The 911 Carrera S is slightly cheaper ("slightly" being a relative term, given the six-figure pricetag), but the GT trumps it in almost every metric.

Power? The GT's twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8 makes 340kW against the Carrera S' 294kW atmo flat-six.

Torque? Again, the Mercedes monsters the Porsche with 600Nm - 160Nm more than the 911.
