Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that its AMG performance offshoot is developing what promises to be one of the world’s ultimate hypercars

The German carmaker has made the announcement at the Paris Motor Show, with Daimler’s Thomas Weber saying that an F1-based powerplant is part of the package.

“I’m very excited to officially confirm our next big thing at AMG is already in the pipeline,” Weber said.

“We’re going to create an AMG performance hybrid featuring our Formula 1 drivetrain technology, with a league of AMG performance companies joining forces to create the most efficient, and at the same time, the best performing and most spectacular AMG of all time. Some may even call it a hypercar.”

Weber said the new hypercar would preview other future models for AMG, with hybrid and battery technology to feature more prominently in future projects.

As for the new model, Weber said there would be “no compromises” in terms of its emotional appeal.
