If you’ve got the budget to skip the likes of Toyota’s new 86 racing series and the Porsche GT3 Cup just isn’t doing it for you, here’s another option: Mercedes-AMG’s new Customer Sports Championship.
Launching in December, the new one-make series will for now focus on the outgoing SLS AMG, with titles on offer for Pro Driver, Driver and Team entrants.
Likewise, Mercedes-AMG will continue to campaign its existing and hugely successful SLS AMG GT3 racer for another year, likely adding to the list of 40 team customers that signed on in 2014.
From 2016, Mercedes-AMG will launch a racing version of its all-new GT coupe, destined both for FIA GT3 racing and for its own one-make series.
We can likely expect the launch of the AMG GT as a racer to be followed by a special new road-going version, but for now, Mercedes isn’t saying.
Watch for more in the coming year.
