It has been only two weeks since McLaren gave its new P1 hypercar an official unveiling, and already fans are gearing up for what might come next.

It's no secret that McLaren is looking to become a big-time player in the sports category. And, while the 12C and P1 models have the middle and elite segments covered, the company still lacks an entry option.

Now, reports overseas add credence to old whispers that that McLaren is preparing a new sub-12C model aimed squarely at Porsche's iconic 911 Turbo.

According to Britain's Autocar, the new model is currently known as the P13 - the same name applied to a reported McLaren entry model back in 2011.

The report adds that the 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 driving the 12C will also feature in the new model, de-tuned to produce closer to 370kW. In the 12C, the V8 offers a hefty 460kW.

As for styling, the wild polarising look of the P1 could inform the design of the new model, although McLaren will likely be mindful of not diminishing the appeal of the decidely less outlandish 12C.

McLaren is reportedly eyeing around 2500 sales each year for the P13, with a European price in the realm of €154,000.
