Britain's McLaren is hard at work on its plans to tackle the world's premier supercar brands on all fronts, and the new MP4-12C is merely the opening salvo.

The company has confirmed that a number of new models are in the works, ranging from a Lamborghini Aventador rival to a more 'entry level' model that will take on Ferrari's California convertible

This month, McLaren opened a cutting-edge new production facility in England - an event important enough to prompt a visit from British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Bigger news than Mr Cameron's visit was the announcement of McLaren's next big project: the MP4-27.

The question that went unanswered however is whether that project is for a successor to the legendary F1 supercar, or McLaren's next Formula 1 race car (replacing the 2011 MP4-26). You'd reckon it's the latter.

McLaren meanwhile remains quiet on the details for its next supercar, known internally as the P12, but reports out of Europe suggest a target of around 600kW and a 0-100km/h time below three seconds. Of course.
