McLaren has pulled the covers from its topless supercar, revealing the new 2013 MP4-12C Spider.
As expected, the Spider features a folding metal roof that tucks away into a space behind the rear seats. When the roof is up, the space becomes 52 litres of useable storage room.
McLaren promises performance on par with the hardtop, thanks to a development program that planned for a convertible version from day one.
Weighing just 40kg more than the regular model, and featuring the same twin-turbo 3.8 litre V8 engine, the new Spider lists performance figures almost identical to the hardtop MP4-12C.
"The 12C Spider delivers all the thrills characteristic of a high performance roadster, and yet transforms into a raucous track beast at the flick of a switch," Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director, said.
"I can’t wait to see it on road and track with customers later this year."
