McLaren has released a teaser image for its upcoming MP4-12C Spider, confirming for the first time that an open-top version of its new supercar is on the way.
Technical details for the new car remain under wraps for now, but its international unveiling is scheduled for next week.
It is likely that the topless MP4-12C will deliver power and performance on-par with the hardtop, with the recently power-boosted 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 confirmed to carry over unchanged.
The carbon-fibre tub can also be expected to match the stiffness of the coupe, so performance-blunting weight gains won't trouble the 460kW powerplant too much.
The hardtop hits 100km/h in "just over" three seconds, and the Spider should come within a couple hundredths of that time - if not match it.
Earlier reports, and our own spy photos, suggest that we can look forward to a folding hardtop design, with an aluminium and plastic construction.
Watch for details on the new model to appear in the coming week.
