Details of McLaren's upcoming 675LT "Long Tail" have begun dribbling out ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva Auto Show in March, with the British supercar maker announcing the first morsels of info on the car's engine.

We already knew that the 675LT's engine would boast 496kW (675PS, hence the name), but McLaren has now revealed that peak torque from its 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 will top out at 700Nm.

The engine will also limit torque to 600Nm in first gear to help preserve traction during standing-start acceleration (and, presumably, reduce strain on the twin-clutch drivetrain). The peak torque figure of 700Nm will also only be meted out between 5500-6500rpm in all other gears.

Engine internals are lighter to improve mechanical efficiency, and the turbocharger trim has been changed to produce more boost. The 675LT's titanium exhaust also helps it shed some pounds.
