This year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is on this week, and McLaren has come out guns blazing with a new 12C racing concept.

Based on the company's GT3 racer, the 12C Can-Am Edition Racing Concept is a one-off track monster built to McLaren GT's own standards - ignoring the rules normally imposed by the FIA.

The regular MP4-12C's 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 has come in for the obligatory overhaul, with power boosted to 470kW - up from 441kW in the regular model, and 460kW in the FIA-approved GT3 car.

The 12C Can-Am also gets the usual assortment of carbon-fibre goodies, including the front splitter and dive planes, huge rear wing, and air-channeling rear diffuser. Together, this package increases downforce by 30 percent.

There's a track-spec braking package and Pirelli racing tyres, and the cabin has been fitted out with a full cage, removable steering wheel and six-point harnesses.
