Since the first-generation Mazda6 debuted in 2002, fans have dreamed of a two-door version of the sporty midsizer. It's no surprise then that reports of a coupe body for the new model have begun to circulate.

That sketches for a two-door body of the 6-previewing Takeri concept exist somewhere at Mazda head office is easy to believe (what art director could resist the idea?), but according to Britain's What Car, this time it's for real.

The new Mazda6 sedan, hatch and wagon variants are expected to hit the international market early in 2013. If a coupe version is to follow, we can likely expect it to arrive in the following year.

Past experience suggests we shouldn't hold our breath for a coupe to join the 6 line-up, but there's always hope...
