The Grand Prix Celebrity Challenge has been run and won for 2014, with cyclist Robbie McEwen and Socceroo Brett Emerton taking the race victories.

Emerton and McEwen were first and second on the grid for Race One respectively after qualifying, with Charley Boorman third, Rob Mills forth and Tim Robards starting fifth.

Race One on Saturday was cut short after three of the five scheduled laps, following a dramatic rollover from former Miss Universe Australia, Rachael Finch.

Finch’s Mazda3 was struck when Channel Nine presenter Clint Stanaway attempted to re-join the track after an incident at turn ten, with the resulting contact flipping Finch’s car onto its roof.

“I felt really comfortable and confident in the position I was in, I was having loads of fun,” Finch said, following the rollover.

“All of a sudden something clipped me from the back and the next thing I knew I was on my head spinning around in circles. I felt completely relaxed, I knew the safety team was coming to get me. I’m just disappointed that I have to start from the back of the grid tomorrow!”

McEwen won the shortened race, with Emerton finishing second and Grease star Rob Mills in third.

Sunday’s Race Two saw another good performance from Emerton, going one better by greeting the chequered flag in first place.

Mills also managed to improve one place on his Saturday performance with a second place finish, while Tim Robards finished third.

Catriona Rowntree was the best of the women in Race Two, finishing fourth, while Race One winner McEwen stalled his Mazda3 on the green light, falling back through the pack.

“This whole week has been a fantastic experience; it really took me out of my comfort zone which you don't normally do on a day-to-day basis,” Emerton said.

Nathan Brown and Charley Boorman failed to finish the final race.

From The Editor: Does the manufacturer involved get anything out of watching 'celebrity drivers' slowly dismantle their cars on the F1 racetrack?

It would seem so; the top-ranking article on The Motor Report all weekend was 2014 Mazda3 Price, Models and Features.

Despite the shenanigans with Daniel Ricciardo's fuel flow meter at Red Bull, Mazda's 3 remained in top spot today for much of the morning and only at midday displaced by the errant F1 fuel issue.

So yes, looks like a 'win' for Mazda Australia.
