Rotary fans are in for a treat at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with Mazda announced as the Central Feature Marque at the event.

The Japanese carmaker will arrive at Goodwood with a collection of its favourite racing cars, developed over the years under Mazda’s mantra of “never stop challenging”.

Heading the list is the 787B, which won the Le Mans 24-Hour in 1991, along with the RX-7 that won the Spa 24-Hour ten years earlier.

‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett and his RX-7 will star in Goodwood’s new ‘Catch My Drift’ category, while other racing Mazdas from decades past - including two 767Bs and a 757 - will attack Goodwood’s famous Hill Climb.

Mazda promises an “ear-splitting” performance from its rotary-powered racers, and a “flame-spitting” performance from its 1991 RX-792P, developed for the American IMSA series and the last Mazda-backed racer to use the R26B four-rotor engine.
