Fans of the Mazda MX-5 RF - the folding hardtop version of Mazda’s iconic roadster - now have something new to pine after, in the United States at least.
Available now for pre-order, the MX-5 RF Launch Edition will be capped at just 1000 units and offer the exclusive colour combination of Machine Gray Metallic paint on the outside, and Auburn Nappa leather on the inside.
The colour combo mimics that seen on the original MX-5 RF concept which was first shown at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, with the Launch Edition cars also adding a hand-painted black roof panel and a custom-designed,individually numbered 42mm Torneau watch to compliment the car.
Launch Edition cars will be based on the better equipped GT model, and offer a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, with the number of each to be determined according to customer orders.
“Rarely does any automaker have a vehicle that garners the sort of loyalty and enthusiasm MX-5 generates - something we don’t take lightly. According to Robert Davis, Mazda North America’s senior Vice President.
MX-5 RF is the next chapter of this storied model line, and we can’t think of a better way to give back than to first offer this bespoke Launch Edition to those who have stuck with us, believing in our mission to deliver the best-driving vehicles on the road.”
As for a local launch edition, Mazda Australia’s Senior Manager of Public Relations, Karla Leach, advised TMR that there’s no plan in place for an Australian Launch Edition car, but that Mazda is looking forward to arrival of the car locally.
Let us know what you think of the US market Launch Edition; should Mazda Australia offer something similar to local buyers, and would you be likely to buy one it it came finished the same as the New York concept?
