Mazda has issued a recall in Australia this week for its BT-50 pickup, due to a potential problem with the vehicle’s side airbags.

The carmaker says the airbag initiators within the side airbag modules may contain an incorrect chemical mixture.

As a result, the side airbag may not deploy when required, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants during a collision. To date, no such incidents have been reported in Australia.

Affected BT-50 models were sold in Australia between December last year and April 2017.
