Maserati Rolling Out New Models From 2013: Report

Maserati's all-new Quattroporte is expected to hit showrooms early in 2013, arriving nearly 10 years after the debut of the current model.

Of course, reports early last year pointed to a 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling, so you can take talk of an early '13 launch with as many grains of salt as you like.

A new report by Germany's Autobild magazine describes a new Quattroporte that is larger than the current model - focusing on increased legroom in the rear - and around 100kg lighter than the current model.

The new Quattroporte's main powerplant is expected to be a twin-turbo version of Chrysler's Pentastar V6, replacing the Ferrari-supplied V8 of the current model.

The report also points to a 2013 debut for the new "baby Quattroporte," which will do battle with BMW's 5 Series sedan and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Maserati's new Kubang SUV is expected to arrive in the following year, with the concept's styling likely to carry over to the production model. 

The big Grand Cherokee-based SUV could get a new name when it debuts, with reports late last year pointing to "Cinqueporte" (five-door) as one possible moniker. 

Despite its Daimler/Chrysler platform origins, Maserati says the SUV will be powered by a range of "high tech proprietary engines" designed by Maserati and built by Ferrari. No doubt that will include a V8 range-topper.

In 2015, the current GranTurismo coupe and GranCabrio convertible are also expected to be replaced, although details for those models - still sometime away - have yet to surface.
