Maserati has recalled its Ghibli and Quattroporte models this week, due to a potential problem with the driver’s-side floor mats.

The carmaker has identified a problem with the throttle (or accelerator) pedal and the floor mats, which could see the pedal stuck in an open-throttle position.

Should this occur whilst underway, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision causing injury or worse to the vehicle occupants and other road-users.

Maserati says a combined total of 1018 Ghibli and Quattroporte examples are affected by the recall, with 907 in Australia and a further 111 in New Zealand.

The carmaker issued a separate recall for its Quattroporte late last year, owing to a potential problem with a wiring harness.

Maserati will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
