The number 17 Ford Falcon marks a return of sorts to ‘traditional’ Shell Helix livery for the DJR team, to be steered by former two-time V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose as he makes his eagerly anticipated comeback.
While Ford has ‘officially’ withdrawn from the sport, the team has still taken steps to upgrade to Ford’s new FG X Falcon styling for the 2015 season.
Ambrose and his previous sponsor in Pirtek will be reunited this year, as Ambrose, DJR and Penske all look to new beginnings in V8 Supercar racing in one way or another.
“We’ve got a big challenge ahead of us at DJR Team Penske but there are a lot of well-credentialed guys in the team and I’m comfortable with our preparation,” Ambrose said.
“There isn’t a lot of testing that you can do under V8 Supercar rules, which makes it very hard, but we’ll learn as we go and hopefully can achieve some solid results.”
Ambrose had a chance to dust off his V8 Supercar cobwebs in the closing round of the 2014 season at Sydney Olympic Park, but races across both Saturday and Sunday were cut short due to inclement weather.
The driver’s two V8 Supercar championships came in 2003 and 2004, behind the wheel of a Ford Falcon when Ambrose drove for Stone Brothers Racing.
The 2015 V8 Supercar championship gets underway at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, which runs from February 26 to March 1.
