In a ‘one off’ appearance in the final round of 2014, Ambrose’s Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) Ford Falcon will carry sponsorship from hose and fitting company Pirtek.
Both of Ambrose’s Australian Touring Car Championships were achieved from behind the wheel of the ‘Pirtek Falcon’, when the recently-retired NASCAR driver competed for Stone Brothers Racing around a decade ago.
The Pirtek Falcon and Ambrose were champions in 2003 and 04, and now the pair has been reunited ahead of Ambrose’s return to the sport.
The popular racer’s primary backer for the Sydney event will be XBOX. Ambrose took to the wheel for a ride-day at Queensland’s Lakeside Raceway to familiarise himself with the Falcon under the current rules.
“I guess you could say the ‘band is back together’ and I could not be happier,” Ambrose said.
“The support of Pirtek when I came into V8 Supercars as a rookie was humbling. Pirtek and its franchise network really gave me my shot.”
“I was able to reward them with a couple of championships, but the friendships we forged in those years have been lasting and it’s terrific to come back to Australia and have them involved as we roll the car out of the truck for the first time."
Pirtek has hinted at further involvement with Ambrose’s comeback, when the driver returns to the sport fulltime in 2015 under the new DJR Team Penske.
The NRMA Sydney 500 marks the final round of the 2014 V8 Supercar season, on from December 5-7 at Olympic Park in Homebush.
