You may not yet have heard of Lynk & Co, the fledgling ‘connected’ car brand from Chinese Automaker Geely, but at the Shanghai Auto Show Lynk & Co is preparing to unveil its second concept alongside its first production car.
Called the 03 Concept, the new sedan closely follows the design direction established by the 01 SUV first shown in 2016 with highlights including high-set headlights, slim horizontal front intakes (to disguise the 01’s tall stance), a contrasting roof and shark-fin C-pillar effect.
Under the skin the 03 shares its mechanical package with Volvo’s as-yet unseen S40 and XC40 compact models (Volvo is also a part of Geely), with the Geely-Volvo developed Compact Modular Architecture providing the chassis for both brands.
Lynk & Co also aims to set up new ownership models, offering users a choice of outright ownership, car share subscriptions, or rent-on-demand one-off usage programs and even includes bicycle usage as part of a last-mile mobility push to get users closer to their final destination.
The Lynk & Co model relies heavily on a ‘virtual key’ smartphone app that connects subscribers like never before, not only allowing vehicle bookings and access but also tailoring a Lynk & Co car to the users personal settings every time they get in.
Firm technical details of the 03 sedan are yet to be revealed, however the concept will share space on the Shanghai Auto Show stand with a production version of the 01 SUV and the two are expected to be closely related.
In the case of the 01 a choice of turbocharged 1.5-litre three cylinder and 2.0-litre four cylinder engines will be available, with hybrid and electric options expected to be added after the SUV’s initial debut.
