Lotus has announced the latest racing version of its Evora flagship, the GTC.

Based on the existing Evora GT4 racer, the GTC will do battle in the European Le Mans Series’ new-for-2012 GTC category.

The GT4 model already competes with Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and Ferrari 430 Challenge models in the series, but the GTC has been developed to better exploit the regulations.

GTC specific modifications include carbon-fibre doors, roof, and engine cover, in lieu of the GT4’s fibreglass panels.

Together with the use of plexiglass for windows, the GTC is 30kg lighter than the GT4 model, now weighing under 1140kg in total.

The addition of bolt-on wheelarch flares has enabled the fitment of wider wheels and tyres, the wheels now 10 inches wide at the front, and 12 at the rear.

Traction control and ABS have also been added to the GTC’s spec sheet.

Mechanically, the GTC uses the same 335kw, 4.0 litre Toyota-sourced V6 engine as the GT4 model, coupled to the same XTRAC six-speed sequential gearbox.

Aside from the European Le Mans Series, the GTC will also suit the American Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, British GT Championship, French VdeV Series and the CREVENTIC international endurance series.

Locally, the similar Australian GT Championship and Bathurst 12 Hour race could also prove a suitable stomping ground for the GTC.
