Lotus has announced the sacking of controversial CEO, Dany Bahar.
The British sports car maker released a statement this week, confirming that the company’s board had elected to terminate its relationship with Bahar after an internal investigation into his conduct.
Bahar had been suspended from the role of CEO nearly two weeks ago for undisclosed reasons.
The news of Bahar’s dismissal comes after a tumultuous 2012 for Lotus, which began with the Malaysian government’s January sale of parent company Proton to DRB-Hicom.
April saw the company withdraw sponsorship from the F1 team that bears its name, prompting rumours that Lotus may be sold off by DRB-Hicom.
Both Proton and DRB-Hicom have since stated publicly that there are no current plans to sell Lotus.
DRB-Hicom remains "committed to ensure the ongoing and future business operations of the Lotus Group", MD and Lotus chairman Mohd Khamil Jamil said in this latest statement.
No direct replacement has been named to replace Bahar as CEO, but DRB-Hicom senior executive Aslam Farikullah has been named COO of Group Lotus, effective immediately.
Conduct aside, Bahar’s stint as Lotus CEO will be best remembered for his 2010 Paris Motor Show unveiling of five concept models at once, and related plans to quadruple Lotus sales.
These ambitious plans were announced barely a year after Bahar joined Lotus after leaving a senior sales role at Ferrari.
