British sports car marque Lotus will reportedly skip this year's Paris Motor Show.

In 2010, the Paris Motor Show was the scene of what looked to be a new beginning for Lotus, with the unveiling of six wild new cars and the promise that each would see production.

Now, with Lotus and its owner Proton in new hands, and then-CEO Dany Bahar sacked, the future of the beloved British sports marque is in doubt once more.

There's more smoke this week, with reports out of the US suggesting that Lotus will not be making an appearance at this year's Paris Motor Show in September.

American website Car & Driver reports that while unnamed sources have confirmed the brand will not show in Paris, it is continuing to develop new models.

Lotus hasn't disappeared from the show circuit all together, however, with the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed playing host to a large Lotus stand.

New owner DRB-Hicom remains "committed to ensure the ongoing and future business operations of the Lotus Group", MD and Lotus chairman Mohd Khamil Jamil said in a statement last month.
