The last page in the Evora's book may have been revealed by the unveiling last year of the next-gen Lotus line-up, but the Evora's story isn't over yet.

Reports out of Europe this week suggest that Lotus is planning a new track-ready but roadgoing version of the Evora, eclipsing even the 257kW top-shelf S variant

The report, published by the UK's Auto Express, follows news earlier this year that the Evora will be given a comprehensive styling and mechanical overhaul to bridge the gap between the brand's current and future line-up.

The subject of this week's report however is understood to be a limited-edition upgrade to the current Evora, inspired by the track-only Type 124 and producing around 300kW - thanks to upgrades to the 3.5 litre V6 engine.

Like the Evora Type 124, we expect the new variant - built to a 'weekend warrior' philosophy - would also benefit from a strict weight-loss regime, leaving it with only the most necessary components in the cockpit.

Lotus boss Danny Bahar has reportedly also offered up some new hints on what to expect from the Evora's upcoming overhaul.

Speaking with Auto Express, Bahar is quoted as confirming "147 improvements" for the current flagship Lotus, including higher-grade materials in the cabin, a more powerful exhaust note and a sharper transmission.

Bahar added that the updated Evora, along with a convertible version, will debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
