Lotus purists may want to look away.

The British sports car specialist is reportedly developing a jacked-up crossover version of its updated Evora as part of its strategy of growing the Evora model range and boosting the brand's appeal in SUV-loving markets like China and the US.

Speaking to British magazine Car, Lotus boss Jean-Marc Gales revealed that development work is already well underway on the Evora-based crossover, and that the car would remain rear-wheel drive and not be focused on off-road performance.

Little else is known about Lotus' first crossover, but we can expect to hear more at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, where Gales hopes to "relaunch" Lotus with the new Evora.

Gales also revealed that a stripped-down successor to the Elise-based 2-Eleven track car may also be on the way, though no timeline for its arrival has been given.
