Called the Lotus Elise S Cup R, the new model will become the British carmaker’s 'entry-level' track-day car, priced at £39,125 plus VAT in the UK (AU$71,845 plus GST).
Power comes from Lotus' 1.8 litre supercharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 163kW and 250Nm in the ‘regular’ Elise S.
The new Elise variant marks the first time the 1.8 litre engine has been used by Lotus in a Cup model, but whether the power output will be boosted for the track-only version is unclear.
A motorsport-specific engine control module (ECM) has been fitted, along with adjustable springs and dampers.
An aero package comprised of barge boards, front splitter, winglets, a rear diffuser and a rear wing also features on the Elise S Cup R.
For every kilogram added, Lotus has stripped one away from elsewhere in the car to maintain the same 924kg weight of the road-going version.
With all of the track-focused improvements combined, Lotus claims the S Cup R will be around four seconds per lap faster over a five kilometre race track when compared to the Elise S.
The new Elise is eligible for entry in the production class of the 2014 Lotus Cup series, which operates under various names in the UK, Europe, the USA, Japan, Thailand and China, along with an Italian series and the Lotus Ladies Cup.
