LEXUS NX AUSTRALIA
Lexus has confirmed it will launch its new NX SUV range in Australia later this year, starting with the 300h Hybrid in the fourth quarter.
The company’s first-ever four-cylinder turbo petrol model will follow, when the NX 200t hits Australian showrooms in early 2015.
Both models will be offered here in two- and all-wheel-drive form, with the latter featuring a new E-Four system when equipped in the NX 300h Hybrid.
Today’s announcement comes just one week after Lexus Australia boss Sean Hanley spoke with TMR of the new model’s importance to the company’s local line-up.
"Lexus Australia is very eager to secure the NX SUV and we believe it would complement our existing SUV line-up, providing a gateway vehicle to other SUVs and our expansive hybrid vehicle range," Mr Hanley said.
Revealed earlier this month after nearly a year of teasers and leaked images, the NX marks Lexus’ first entry into the hugely popular SUV market.
In 300h form, the NX will match a 2.5 litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 145kW.
The new turbo engine will deliver a healthy 175kW and 350Nm of torque (could we see this engine in a future Lexus hot hatch?), and while fuel figures have not been offered, Lexus promises an optimum balance between economy and performance.
