Lexus: LFA ‘Ring Prototypes Are One-offs Testers Only, Not For Sale

Spy photographers have set the Lexus fan-base ablaze over the past week with shots of two LFA prototypes, known as AD-A and AD-B, hammering around the Nurburgring.

Speculation that the two cars were test-mules for a run of final special-edition models has been shot down, however, by Lexus itself.

The website Lexus Enthusiast received an email this week from the senior manager of product communications at Lexus, Etienne Plas.

The email revealed the news that Lexus is not planning any further special editions of the LFA.

"These LFA units spotted at Nürburgring are one-off vehicles developed by the TMC technical division, and are currently being tested for technical purposes only," wrote Plas.

"We have no plans to produce and sell any new special edition of the LFA."

One explanation is that these two are mules for the next model in the Japanese brand's supercar project. The LFA is nearing the end of its 500 unit production run.

If the rumours are true, there's a successor on the way. Japan's Best Car reported early last month that Lexus is planning one, so it would make sense to use the previous car's body with a few new parts for testing.
