The dramatic LF-CC concept is on its way to production, an unnamed Lexus insider has reportedly confirmed, with a late 2014 debut in sight.
This latest report, from British magazine What Car?, follows claims from Autocar last year that a "senior Lexus engineer" has been tapped to lead the project.
Earlier in 2012, Lexus was discovered to have registered the name 'RC 350', lending weight to talk of a new coupe or convertible.
Sharing its platform with the new IS sedan, the LF-CC based RC coupe is likely to draw power from a 3.5 litre petrol engine, possibly in a GS 450h-like hybrid configuration for greater power and fuel economy.
The name 'RC F' is also understood to have been registered, and our rendering above hints at how this new M4 rival might look.
The new RC model, whether coupe or convertible (or both), would fill the space left by the retired SC line, which has been out of production since 2010.
The ‘R’ prefix could represent plans to give the model its own unique styling, in a move similar to the A4-based A5 and upcoming 3 Series-based 4 Series.
