The carmaker had previously confirmed it would unveil at least one new model in Detroit, but today’s teasers come as the first real hint of what we can expect.
But which model are we seeing here? That it’s an enhanced ‘F’ performance model is not in doubt, but it is not entirely clear which of the current Lexus models has been given the going-over.
The IS and GS are the obvious contenders, and recent spy photos of the bigger Lexus sedan storming around the Nurburgring would suggest that a new GS F is on the way.
A performance version of the GS has been rumoured for many years now, but we might finally be on the verge of seeing Lexus take on the BMW M5 and AMG’s E 63.
The big performance sedan is expected to be powered by the same 5.0 litre V8 found in the new Lexus RC F. Reports also suggest output will be dialled up to greater than 400kW.
Those sorts of figures will go a long way toward battling the GS F’s obvious rivals, which offer as much as 430kW.
Whatever Lexus is planning, we can expect more to be revealed in the coming weeks.
