Lexus GS F: Will They Or Won’t They?

It's the rumour that Lexus can't escape, and for good reason: with rivals like the BMW M5, Audi S6 and Mercedes E 63 AMG, a big-power GS F flagship would go over very well with the fans.

Reports of such an offering have been circulating for more than two years, but with a new GS on the way and a stated desire to entice enthusiasts, Lexus is back in the rumour mill. 

According to Britain's Autocar magazine, Lexus insiders say they "would love" to give the M3-rivalling IS F a big brother.

That's hardly confirmation, mind you, and why wouldn't they love to deliver a GS F?

So the question remains: will they or won't they? Your guess is as good as ours.

"Buyers in the large luxury car segment are almost always male, and very wealthy - and they can have just about whatever they want when it comes to their choice of car," Lexus Australia boss Tony Cramb told TMR at the unveiling of the new GS.

"Frankly, we've struggled to attract that type in the past, but this model, its styling and handling, we're very confident it will change all of that."

Perhaps not all of it: the new GS is a good-looking unit, but with just the one V6 engine option, those M5, S6 and E 63 buyers won't be going anywhere until there's at least two, or four, more pots under the GS's bonnet.
