Lexus has announced that the new overseas-market ES sedan will make its global debut at next week's New York Auto Show, releasing a single cropped image in the lead-up to the big event.

A teaser campaign for the new ES could prove a wasted effort however, with the large-ish midsizer spied by the Chinese press earlier this year.

Caught without a shred of camouflage, the new ES adopts the look of its newest stablemates, including the new Lexus 'Spindle' grille design, long headlights with integrated L-shaped LEDs, a long flowing roofline and a hugely improved interior.

Whether the US-market ES will carry exterior and interior styling identical to the Chinese ES is unclear, however.

Unlike the rear-wheel-drive IS, GS and LS, past versions of the ES have shared the platform of the front-wheel-drive Camry. As a result, it has long been one of the more affordable options in the Lexus range, and a frequent top seller for the brand.

Lexus says the new ES will offer "a new dynamic driving experience," and although the ES will not focus on the same buyers that target the IS and GS range, we will likely see a sharper suspension package and more sporting options.
