LDV has chosen Australia as the ideal location to unveil its new D90 4WD wagon to the world.

Using Kiama on the New South Wales South Coast as a backdrop, the Chinese carmaker pulled the covers from a pair of D90 wagons which are each being used as part of a local testing program.

At least one of the D90 test cars was spotted in NSW ahead of the reveal, with a camouflaged wagon appearing in Wollongong last week.

As the covers fell from the D90s in Kiama, cars were also appearing for the first time at the Shanghai Auto Show, but the video and interviews were beamed live from Australia.

Australia, of course, is no random pick for LDV, as the carmaker wants a slice of the local ute-based 4WD market when the D90 goes into battle against the competition.

Such models compete in the Large SUV class under $70,000, and the top-seller last month among the ute-based 4WDs was the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
