Land Rover’s iconic Defender may soldier on - at least for a few additional months beyond its scheduled end-date.

Speaking with the Birmingham Post, an anonymous source said to be an employee at Land Rover’s Solihull facility, revealed that the carmaker had given the orders to continue production into next year.

Land Rover maintains the Defender as we know it will be gone by the end of January 2016, but the source claims production will continue until the end of February - and possibly until the end of April.

The reason for the extension will surprise no one, with Land Rover said to have prolonged the production schedule simply to satisfy demand.

With the Defender soon to be retired for good, at least as a Land Rover model, devotees are understandably keen to secure one of the rugged 4WDs while they still can.
