Lamborghini has handed down a short video preview of a new special-edition model in the Gallardo line-up, ahead of the coupe's retirement in the next year.

The clip reveals little however, and while a Paris Motor Show debut is assured, it remains to be seen exactly what the raging bull has in store for fans.

Possibilities include a powered-up version of the existing all-wheel and rear-wheel-drive variants, or a restyled concept inspired by the likes of the Murcielago-based Reventon.

Lamborghini’s website currently lists six different Gallardo variations, with lightweight, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions available in both hardtop and Spyder bodystyles.

Speculation is rife on the topic of the Gallardo's successor, with a trademark application filed earlier this year suggesting the new car may wear the name 'Deimos'.

Beyond that, we can likely expect the new entry Lambo to follow a similar evolution to the Murcielago and Aventador, bringing a new engine, more power and a lighter platform.

However, with platform mate the Audi R8 reported to be sticking with upgraded versions of its existing V8 an V10 engines, the new Gallardo may instead rely on its new platform to bring the bulk of its performance enhancements.

Recent reports on the next-generation R8 suggest both cars will get a new architecture that focuses on a heavy use of aluminium and carbon fibre, with overall kerb weight - at least in R8 form - coming in at around 1500kg.

For now however, stay tuned to TMR for news of Lamborghini's Paris plans.
