Lamborghini SUV, Range Rover ‘Grand’ Evoque Under Consideration: Report

The luxury SUV market is showing no sign of slowing down. If anything, the increasing frequency of reports of supercar brands developing high-riding models would suggest it is heating up.

Talk this week of a Lamborghini-badged SUV is nothing new. And, interestingly, it comes little more than six months since CEO Stephan Winkelmann reportedly quashed the idea - he suggested the four-door Estoque would be more to Lamborghini buyer's tastes.

According to US magazine Car & Driver however, the heads at Sant’Agata are reportedly rethinking the SUV prospect - and with Volkswagen's SUV platform already underpinning the high-powered Porsche Cayenne range, it's no great leap to imagine.

Still, with the Porsche Panamera's platform ripe for an Estoque programme, it remains anyone's guess as to how much truth lies in these conflicting reports.

It is known however that Lamborghini is planning a third model beyond the Aventador and Gallardo - so time will tell.

Range Rover Grand Evoque

Clearly not convinced that it has plugged every gap in the luxo-SUV market, Land Rover is reportedly considering a larger version of its Range Rover Evoque SUV.

The Evoque hits the market as a smaller and more affordable 'Rangey' than the brand's current entry-level Range Rover Sport - and will undoubtedly open new market opportunities for the British carmaker.

There are reports this week however that Land Rover sees another opportunity in the space between the Evoque and the Sport, where a larger 'Grand' version of the new model could be shoehorned in.

According to British magazine Autocar, Land Rover is considering stretching the Evoque's platform by 300mm, giving buyers an option that would offer the same sleek lines of the Evoque, but offering interior space more in-line with the larger Sport.

With the Evoque only recently launched internationally, it would likely be some time before a new model rears its head - if at all. We can expect, one would think, to see all-new Range Rover Sport and Vogue models first. But these are strange times.
