Lamborghini's Estoque four-door supersaloon concept has taken another step toward a production future this week, with Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann confirming plans for a new model.
"We are going to have a third model. It has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis," Winkelmann told Reuters.
It is unclear however if the newest member of the Lamborghini family will be a passenger-oriented sedan - like the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide - or a smaller, less powerful and more affordable sports car like the Boxster and Cayman twins.
There has also been speculation of a Cayenne-based SUV, although Lamborghini has reportedly written the prospect off.
Winkelmann said that a final decision has still to be made on exactly what type of 'every day' car (for people with very fat wallets, it should be noted) the company will develop. Any new model is likely to be at least four years away.
The new car - if it sees light of day - would be built in cooperation with parent company Volkswagen, utilising platforms and powertrains from within the larger group.
"We will use synergies where possible within the group," Mr Winkelmann said.
The push for a new 'everyday' supersaloon model comes as part of Volkswagen's plans for world domination. Each of its marques is on a mission to boost sales as the group marches toward its goal of becoming the world's number one carmaker by 2018.
Toyota remains the world's top-selling carmaker, with 8,418,000 global sales in 2010 across each of its brands. General Motors finished in second place with 8,389,769, while Volkswagen rounded out the top three on 7,735,000.
