Lamborghini watchers hoping the Italian supercar-maker will release a ‘hairy-chested’ rear-wheel-drive version of its Aventador model could be waiting for quite a while.

That’s the word out of Europe, with the UK’s Autocar reporting that the Aventador will remain an all-wheel-drive-only model for the foreseeable future.

With 515kW and 690Nm under an Aventador driver’s right foot from the 6.5 litre naturally-aspirated V12 petrol engine, rising to 552kW in the SuperVeloce, Lamborghini believes AWD is very necessary to ensure the supercar isn’t too much of a handful.

Enthusiastic Lamborghini customers will instead need to look towards the new Huracan LP 580-2, which was unveiled at the recent LA Auto Show.

As the name suggests, the Huracan is the new RWD fun-machine from Lamborghini, but buyers are still restricted to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in both the Huracan and the Aventador.
