Automobili Lamborghini will mark its 50th anniversary in 2013, and the Italian supercar marque is going to celebrate in style.

President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann announced the program for the biggest event to be held in May, the month of the company's birth.

Kicking off on May 7th, the Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour will run the length of Italy. Lamborghinis past and present from around the world will take part in the 1200km parade, starting from Milan and cruising on to Rome after an overnight stop in Forte dei Marmi.

The parade will thunder into Rome at dusk, ending in the city centre. The next day will see the cars move on to Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna and then on to Sant'Agata, the home of Lamborghini.

"Over the past 50 years, Lamborghini has represented the dream, legend and symbol of a unique, remarkable region – Emilia-Romagna – whose proud, determined people have given us models unlike anything else in the world,” Winkelmann said.

“Even today, now that we are an international enterprise, this deep bond with our local history and culture is still very strong.”

Wilkelmann added that 10 percent of sponsorship revenue collected for anniversary events will be donated to a fund established to help rebuild public buildings in the earthquake-hit Emilia-Romagna region.

Lamborghini has set up a website for fans and owners at www.lamborghini50.com if you want to follow along at home.
