Aston Martin’s 2009 Lagonda SUV concept could reappear in an updated form, Aston Martin boss Ulrich Bez has hinted.

It is now three years since the concept’s Geneva debut, but British magazine Autocar has quoted Bez alluding to the unveiling of "an SUV concept" within the next 12 months.

Whether the concept will carry the historic Lagonda name, or elements of the ill-received previous concept, remains to be seen.

The desire for Aston Martin to build an SUV model should come as no surprise, given the current taste for luxury SUVs in Russia, the US, and particularly China.

We’ve already seen the unveiling of the Maserati Kubang, Bentley EXP 9 F, and Lamborghini Urus concepts for this same reason.

According to industry analysts, the world market for traditional supercars is showing no signs of significant growth, whereas the opposite applies to high-end SUVs.

Aston Martin’s motivation with such a model will be greater than Bentley or Lamborghini, as the independent British marque has enjoyed a fraction of the sales success of its resurging counterparts in recent years.

The British brand's flagship DBS, for example, sells in approximately half the worldwide volume of the similarly priced Lamborghini Gallardo.
