LA Auto Show Issues Cop Car Design Challenge

The Los Angeles Auto Show has issued a challenge to car designers to produce their vision of the police patrol car of 2025.

Since 2003, the LA Show has challenged designers with a new idea every year, driven by California's image as a new mecca of automotive design.

The catch is that the car must feature advanced technology such as alternative powertrains and fuels, must handle well on "future freeway systems" and, of course, be creative.

With this suitably vague criteria, designers will likely have a lot of fun in applying the law enforcement theme - we can expect some really "out-there" designs to surface.

Last year's challenge was to create the '1000lb (454kg) Car of the Future.' 

This year Bentley, BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai and Subaru have put up their hands.

The winning design will be announced on November 29 during the second of the two press days of the LA Auto Show.

The show opens to the public on November 30 and promises to be a big one, with more than twenty world premieres to feature.
