Swedish supercar specialist Koenigsegg has officially lifted the lid on its latest mid-engined monster, the One:1

So named because its output in metric horsepower (1360PS) equals its weight in kilograms (1360kg), the One:1 has a power to weight ratio of exactly 1:1. That's unprecedented for a production road car.

To put that into perspective, a Supermarine Spitfire - the lightweight fighter that helped win the Battle of Britain - has a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1.55.

The Ariel Atom V8 comes close with a P:W of 1:1.09, but that car does so by sacrificing creature comforts like, say, a roof and windscreen.

How does the Koenigsegg One:1 achieve such an incredible power to weight ratio? By combining a lightweight carbon-fibre chassis that's around 20kg lighter than that of a Koenigsegg Agera with a tweaked and tuned version of Koenigsegg's familiar 5.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8.

Total power is an even megawatt (or 1000kW), which is 162kW more than the already blisteringly fast Agera R. Torque numbers aren't quoted, but Koenigsegg says the One:1 will hit 400km/h from rest in a scarcely believable 20 seconds.
