Speaking with Britain’s Auto Express, a Kia insider is understood to have confirmed the light Rio as the next model to receive the GT treatment, if the Pro_Cee’d is a winner.
"We expect the five-door Cee'd GT to be the best seller after it goes on sale next year as Pro_Cee'd only makes up about 15 percent of total Cee'd sales," the source said.
"If everything goes well and it's received warmly then we could spread the GT badge, and maybe see a GT version of the Rio as well."
The insider reportedly added that a new GT model elsewhere in the Kia range would be more likely than a more potent special-edition version of the Pro_Cee’d GT.
Australia will be the first market outside of Europe to see the Pro_Cee’d GT in showrooms, with the car expected to go on sale later this year or early 2014.
The Pro_Cee'd GT is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 150kW of power and 265Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual.
What we could expect from a Rio GT model remains to be seen, although a small turbocharged engine or powered-up naturally-aspirated mill is likely.
